Along with emptying our opponent's hand with a bunch of discard spells, we also have one of the best discard payoffs ever printed in Tergrid, God of Fright, which allows us to steal any of the permanents we make our opponent discard (or sacrifice)
I have seen this card used as a top end threat but without a fairly decent amount of ramp and good colour fixing I think it is a lot worse than Baneslayer or Wurmcoil in that sort of role
The biggest challenge for any trading cards game, especially as it matures and the sheer volume of content expands, is creating entry points for players to dive in without feeling intimidated by ever-expanding complexity
Theres the additional issue that four seems to be the critical mana juncture, so ramping from three to five isnt the best deal, but this also helps four/five color green decks play all the Planeswalkers alongside Centaur Nurturer
